WR450F
OFF-ROAD RIDING’S ANSWER TO MSG
If you ride for the taste, then consider this the flavour enhancer of
your dirt biking experience. There’s nothing like the full-blooded,
red-meat-and-three-veg thrust of a big-bore rooster like the WR450F to
get that adrenalin pumping.
The
second thing you’ll notice about riding the WR450F (the first being a
slight blurring in the periphery of your vision), is just how tractable
and controllable our engineers have managed to make a big horsepower
dirt bike.
The WR450F’s rock-solid reliable,
five-titanium-valved engine is nestled in a YZ-bred aluminium frame
carefully engineered from castings, forgings and extrusions, that
provides just the right amounts of both flexibility and rigidity where
it’s needed.
Fast, forgiving, fat free… and deliciously fast.
With
449cc of liquid-cooled DOHC four-stroke and five titanium valves
delivering broader power than ever, high over-rev capacity and crisp,
linear throttle response, there’s not much that can stand in your way.
Special camshafts, carburation, intake ports and exhaust all work
together to produce an engine with mind-boggling low- and midrange
power and a bullet-proof reputation.
- YZ-inspired
aluminium frame helps reduce weight while optimising mass
centralisation. An extensively tested assembly of aluminium forgings,
castings and extrusions, the WR frame retains legendary Yamaha handling
and response.
- No tools” airbox uses a hinge-type
quick-open lid to speed air cleaner servicing during your work period -
where every second counts. Battery is mounted low to play its part in
the WR’s excellent centre of gravity and high manoeuvrability.
- As
per the 2009/10 YZs, lightweight screws have been adopted for the front
brake attachment assembly to further reduce weight. Every little bit
helps.
- Wave-type brake discs reduce unsprung weight and
provide excellent performance. Front and rear calipers with aluminium
pistons deliver strong stopping power with progressive feel.
- Dry-sump
lubrication system carries the oil reservoir inside the engine cases,
for lower overall engine height, excellent mass centralisation and
simplified plumbing.
- 39mm Keihin FCR flat-slide
carburettor with throttle position sensor (TPS) produces ultra-precise
fuel/air mixing and lightning-quick throttle response. Push button
electric starting (and restarting) is backed up with kickstarter.
- Digital
CDI ignition system delivers more precise spark and monitors engine
speed to ensure optimal timing for fast, strong response during hard
acceleration.
- Large-capacity radiators with reinforcements ensure maximum cooling efficiency with great strength.
- Wide-ratio
five-speed transmission uses strengthened gears and YZ450F-spec
multiplate clutch — good for quick-hitting power in the bush as well as
eye-watering top-end power.
- Lightweight exhaust system maximises engine power and facilitates hassle-free replacement of oil filter.
- Works-style clutch lever features oversize barrel adjuster for easy, on-the-fly adjustability of lever/cable play.
- Fully
adjustable air-/oil-separate 48mm cartridge-type fork delivers precise,
fade-free handling; fork protectors provide excellent tube protection.
Front wheel collar makes front wheel removal quick and easy.
- Tapered
swingarm adopts YZ-style linkage for compliant rear suspension action
from a rebound, spring preload and high- and low-speed compression
damping adjustable Kayaba shock.
- ProTaper aluminium handlebar in forged triple clamp for light weight and great comfort.
